6x8" oil on canvas board. $45. Available here
While flipping through old family photos, I came across a fantastic
one of light hitting the waves as the sun set. I've always wanted to try
capturing that 'sparkle' of light on water, and this was the perfect
opportunity. I upped the contrast slightly from the original photo, to
create a more dramatic and atmospheric composition, and enhanced the
purple, which I hoped would complement the golden sunlight.
The wave in the foreground was probably the hardest part, getting all
those little strokes to pull together convincingly. But I'm really
happy with the result, and I hope you enjoy it too!

The Killary 2
5x7" watercolour on paper. $40. Available here
The second of my little Irish scenes. I really love playing with all of the different shades of green, blue and brown found in these landscapes- and trying to capture the texture of the grass and trees, and the light reflecting in the water!

6x6" watercolour on paper. $40. Available here
I've been having trouble with oils and acrylics lately so I've started painting watercolours again- it's been a long while since I've used them. I'm having a lot of fun, remembering all of the techniques and tricks I like using! Here's the first of two little Irish landscapes I painted a few days ago.

Head in the Clouds
4x5" acrylic on canvas board. $30. Available here
Here's a little landscape
with a mountain, half-hidden by low cloud. I really love the dramatic
contrast of the stormy sky and the streak of sunlight hitting the
ground.

Red Boat, Wesport Quay
6x6 inches, acrylic on canvas board. SOLD
All those curves are so difficult to keep in perspective! I was really drawn to how the bright red stood out against the greys and greens surrounding it. This was one of the most challenging paintings I’ve done in quite a while.

This one has an interesting quality to it, there was something slightly mystical about the light in my reference so I tried to capture that. It’s a simple composition but I think the clean, bright colours make it work.

I really like the way the motion of the water, and the clouds, mirror each other! This one has a little more surface texture than most of my landscapes. I really like the way the trees in the top left corner came out.

This painting features many of my favourite things. River, mountains, tall grasses, and grey skies. I really like the fluidity of this, it came out looking like oil paint!
