Loose Apple

8x8" acrylic on paper. NFS at this time

View it on Daily Paintworks here!

Second of yesterday's attempts at this challenge! I used an apple this time, and a slightly larger paper. 1 is a little too tight for my tastes, though I do quite like the yellowing "eaten" bit. 2 is pretty nice, I really like the shadow in this one and the brushwork is quite satisfying. There's a big jump between 2 and 3, you might notice! That's because I hated my original third attempt and scrubbed it out, repainting it later on. Maybe I should have numbered them 1-2-4-5! I'm quite happy with how bold the bottom two are, though I think the style I'd like to have would be somewhere between 2 and 3.

One Happy Apple

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

It's really enjoying all the bright colours I surrounded it with! It was a lot of fun to work on something so vibrant. I really love the way the glass casts a greenish shadow on the yellow card!

Apple on Foil

6x6" oil on canvas board. $40. Available here

An entry for the DPW Weekly Challenge on the theme of Foil, using a humble apple. I love the 'fractured' look of the reflections. I may well do another of these!

Red Apple Study

4x4" acrylic on canvas board. $25. Available here

I dropped my work off at the gallery today, so although it's not that late yet (for me, anyway) I'm a little sleepy. Train journeys always have that effect on me. So here's a painting from last week, an apple in a china dish- the same subject as one of my first ever daily paintings, though this apple has a wedge taken out of it. It's been a while since I used acrylic and it took me a while to get the colours mixing the way I wanted, but I'm happy with the result.

Royal Gala Gathering

6x8" oil on canvas board. $45. Available here

Here are some Royal Gala apples gathering on some blue and white patterned fabric. I've missed using patterns in my still life paintings! It might be time for another series of them.

Reflections in a Purple Vase

6x6 inches, oil on canvas board. $20 - £13.49 - €18.33 – C$ 27.76

Place a Bid

I'm still waiting for my latest batch of landscapes to dry, so here's a still life instead. I recently bought this purple vase in a charity shop. I liked the way it reflected everything around it, but distorted the perspective, so I decided to surround it with bright colours and paint the arrangement to challenge myself. Part way through, with about ten different elements to work on, it didn't seem such a good idea- but I finished it, and amazingly enough it worked out in the end!

Green Against Blue

6x8 inches, oil on stretched canvas. $50.  Buy With Paypal

I love painting blues and greens, so I had to do a painting with just these colours. I really like the way this one came out. It's fun to do a vertical still life after all of the square compositions I've been doing lately.

Apple and Radishes

21 November 2015.

6x6 inches, acrylic on canvas board. $40. Place a Bid

I love painting radishes. Their squat, round shape and the bold pink colour against their bright green leaves makes for a wonderful subject. And I love eating green apples, so this was a fun still life to paint. I was eating the other half of the apple as I painted!
