Fields, January Morning

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

Another study of fields from my walk- can you tell I'm enjoying painting them? It's great fun trying to capture the 'lines' that appear in the fields, and the way they curve with the landscape.

Fields Near Hexton

6x8" acrylic on canvas board, $45. Available here

As we neared the end of our walk, the fog began to lift a bit, and the green stripes in the fields became more vibrant.

Frosty Field

5x7" acrylic on canvas board, $40. Available here

We still haven't had any proper snow this year, but sometimes the frost on the grass lasts well into the day, as it did on this occasion. As we walked along, pheasants darted across the path up ahead of us- probably six or seven of them at least.

Foggy Field

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

The first in a series of paintings based on a walk I went on recently. It was incredibly cold and foggy, with frost still clinging to the grass in some areas. It's been really fun trying to capture the atmosphere of the countryside on a winter morning!

Not Quite Oranges

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

These little orange fruits are just sold as "easy peelers" so I'm not sure what particular species of citrus they are. But they look great accompanying my little copper jug- lovely warm colours that really make the greens pop!

Popular Pear

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

Pears like this one are a real challenge- trying to capture the mottled colours without affecting the way the shading reads can be pretty tough.

Peaceful Pines

6x8" acrylic on canvas board. $45. Available here

I love trying to give a sense of scale and depth in landscapes. I feel like I achieved that in this piece, the atmospheric perspective has worked pretty well. And I really enjoy the pine trees! I have been practicing them a lot lately. Tricky to get right, but they make wonderful compositional elements.

Apple on Foil

6x6" oil on canvas board. $40. Available here

An entry for the DPW Weekly Challenge on the theme of Foil, using a humble apple. I love the 'fractured' look of the reflections. I may well do another of these!

Blue Skies Ahead

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

I don't think I can ever get bored of painting clouds! Whether they're light and fluffy or dark and stormy, they're endlessly fascinating.

Snowy Sunset

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

Capturing the subtle colours of snow is quite a challenge!

Oranges and Sprouts

5x7" acrylic on canvas board. $40. Available here

Sprouts and orange slices on a floral patterned cloth- the same one used in my Green Jug painting a while ago. I really like the excitement it adds to the arrangement! (Speaking of, I submitted the Green Jug painting to the monthly DPW contest for December- winners are anounced on the 8th, so I have my fingers crossed for that...)
